Five best drinks you must try this monsoon

The pitter patter of rain drops on our window panes, trees and gardens looking fresh with all the dust and grime washed away, the sweet smell of the wet earth, what’s not to love about the monsoon season. And if you love your drinks, monsoon is the perfect time to nurse a fun cocktail while enjoying lovely roof top parties.

Here are five of my most favourite ones:

Jamuntini

For gin lovers, this martini adds a lovely sweet with a hint of sour because of Jamuns. No need to gulp down your gin with the boring bottle of Sprite. You can even try to make this at home.

Ingredients you will need:

Dry gin: 60 ml
Jamun: 4 -5
Lime juice: 10 ml
Sugar syrup: 15 ml
Ice and salt

Method of preparation:

This is quite easy to make. You need to muddle the jamuns in a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice, add lime juice and sugar syrup and then pour the gin. Shake this mixture well and then double strain it into a chilled salt rimmed cocktail glass. You can choose to add red chilly powder to the salt while rimming since this will add a fiery zing to your drink. This delicious drink also has a lovely colour and will add the right pep to your monsoon parties.

Goan Sunset:

Just like its name, this Goan cocktail is ideal for a relaxed evening and is good enough to transport you to the expansive beaches of Goa.

Ingredients you will need:

Cashew Feni 30 ml
Peach schnapps 30 ml
Orange juice 20 ml
Lime juice 10 ml
Grenadine syrup 10 ml

Method of preparation

All ingredients can be added into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Shake the cocktail well and double strain it into a chilled champagne tulip. You can then add grenadine syrup using a stirrer.

Mango Cilantrotini

Mangoes are the much loved Indian fruit and what better way to mix your love of mangoes and Gin than this cocktail with a desi twist.

Ingredients you will need

Gin 60 ml
Mango juice 90ml
Lime juice 15 ml
Simple syrup 20 ml
Fresh ginger
Fresh coriander leaves

Method of preparation

Muddle a few pieces of ginger and some coriander leaves together in a cocktail shaker and pour all the ingredients with ice. Shake the cocktail shaker with force till the cubes break. Double strain the cocktail into a stemless martini glass. Garnish with a piece of mango and fresh coriander spring.

Orange zinger

For the whisky lovers, orange zinger is a perfect cocktail. A hint of orange and ginger give this classic cocktail a hint of zing.

Ingredients you will need:

Indian Whisky: 60 ml
Orange marmalade: 2 Tsp
Ginger: 1 inch
Soda

Method of preparation:

Mix the whisky, orange marmalade and grated ginger in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake it well and double strain into an ice –filled whisky glass. Add a bit of soda and garnish with orange to serve.

Corrito:

For the rum lovers, here is a twist to the classic Thumbs and White rum combination. Why not spice things up a bit with Corrito?

Ingredients:

White rum: 45 ml
Lime chunks: 3-4
Sugar syrup: 10 ml
Tabasco: a pinch
Chaat masala: a pinch
Thumbs Up

Method of preparation:

Muddle the lime and coriander in a glass and add ice, chat masala, sugar syrup and Tabasco. Add white rum to this mix and top it up with Thumbs up to serve.
